How To Get Hair Dye Off Marble Countertop

Accidents happen, and if you’ve accidentally gotten hair dye on your marble countertop, there are several methods you can try to remove it without damaging the beautiful surface. Marble is a porous material, which means it can absorb liquids and stains if not properly sealed. However, with the right approach and some gentle cleaning techniques, you can effectively remove hair dye stains from your marble countertop.

First, it’s essential to act quickly to prevent the hair dye from setting into the marble. Use a clean cloth or paper towel to blot up as much of the dye as possible without rubbing it into the marble. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads, as these can scratch the marble surface and make the stain worse.

Once you’ve blotted up the excess hair dye, dampen a clean cloth with warm water and mild dish soap. Gently blot the stained area with the soapy cloth, taking care not to scrub too vigorously. The mild detergent will help to break down the dye and lift it from the marble surface.

If the stain persists, you can try using a paste made from baking soda and water. Mix equal parts baking soda and water to create a thick paste, then apply it to the stained area of the marble countertop. Allow the paste to sit on the stain for several hours or overnight to allow it to penetrate the marble and lift the dye.

After allowing the baking soda paste to sit, gently scrub the stained area with a soft-bristled brush or sponge. Rinse the area thoroughly with warm water to remove any residue, then dry it with a clean cloth. Repeat the process as needed until the hair dye stain is completely removed from the marble countertop.

If the stain is stubborn and refuses to budge, you can try using a commercial marble cleaner specifically designed to remove stains. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully and test the cleaner on a small, inconspicuous area of the countertop first to ensure it doesn’t cause any damage.

Another option for removing hair dye stains from marble is to use a poultice made from a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and powdered whiting or talc. Mix the ingredients to create a thick paste, then apply it to the stained area of the marble countertop. Cover the poultice with plastic wrap and allow it to sit for 24 to 48 hours to draw out the dye stain. Afterward, remove the poultice and rinse the area thoroughly with warm water.

It’s important to note that marble is a delicate and porous material, so it’s essential to avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that can damage the surface. Always test any cleaning method or product on a small, inconspicuous area of the marble countertop first to ensure it doesn’t cause any damage or discoloration.

To prevent future stains, it’s recommended to seal your marble countertop regularly with a high-quality marble sealant. This will help to protect the surface from stains and spills and make it easier to clean and maintain.

While hair dye stains on marble countertops can be stubborn, they can be effectively removed with the right approach and gentle cleaning techniques. By acting quickly, using mild cleaners, and avoiding harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners, you can safely and effectively remove hair dye stains from your marble countertop without causing any damage to the surface.
